Charles Pittman Humphrey Sr.

Charles Pittman Humphrey was born on October 20, 1944 to Donald and Helen Humphrey. Charles grew up in the Clarks area of Craven County with his brother Donald and his sister Rose. Charles served in the US Army during Vietnam and with the Army Reserves during Desert Storm. After a 20 year career as a civilian service member at Cherry Point, Charles worked as a Veteran Services Administrator in Pamlico County until his retirement. Charles was a graduate of New Bern High and Troy State University and was a Civil War-era history scholar who loved to metal hunt and research the origins of the relics he discovered. Charles was a devoted husband to his wife Emogene Humphrey and beloved father to their children (and spouses) including Charl, Charlie (Kimberly), Candice (Nathan), and John (Cathy). Charles has enough grand children to almost field two baseball teams. Charles was a member of Clark’s United Methodist Church. Charles Pittman Humphrey, 72, of Jasper, NC passed away on January 8, 2017 but lived a fulfilling life and made the world a better place. He is preceded in death by his wife Emogene Carawon Humphrey, his brother Donald, and his parents. Charles leaves a long legacy of service to his country, community, and family.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, January 13, 2016 at Cotten Funeral Home with the Rev. Mike Register officiating. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.cottenfuneralhome.com.
