Charles Buck Jernigan Sr.

Charles B. Jernigan, Sr. passed away Monday, October 27, 2025. Charlie was predeceased by his parents Hubert and Mary Lou Jernigan and a sister, Enid Baggett. He was born in Sampson County, where he resided until he attended college at East Carolina University. There, he met Sandra Kay Bryan, his eventual wife and the love of his life for 63 years. They were blessed with two children, Charles B. Jernigan, Jr. of New Bern, NC, and Kimberly Weglar of Cary, NC. Other survivors include Walter Weglar, a true Southerner son-in-law, two loving granddaughters, Allyson and Courtney Weglar, also of Cary, NC, and his sisters Marilyn Wood of Aiken, SC, and Nancy Wilson of Southport, NC.

After graduating from college, Charlie moved to Asheboro, NC to work for Klopman Mills. He missed New Bern so much that he returned in 1970 and spent the rest of his life in an area he loved, with people he loved. He was an agent with Integon Life for 17 years, after which he opened and operated New Bern Flooring, Inc.

Charlie was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was also a Master Mason, awarded the Veteran’s Emblem acknowledging 50 years of membership.

Outside of the golf course and the fishing hole, you could find him in the “little house” working on any project imaginable, or at the kitchen table beating the whole family at card games.

One of Charlie’s greatest loves was dancing with his wife, Kay. Charlie grew up going to Williams Lake, where he would dance every time he had a chance. He especially loved shagging and beach music.

Charlie was a member of the New Bern Golf and Country Club for 49 years and served one term on the Board of Directors.

A memorial service will be held at Cotten Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm. A reception will follow at New Bern Golf and Country Club.
