Charles Michael Lane, 41, of New Bern, was called home by our Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 12, 2018.

Michael was a wonderful man who exemplified what a husband, father, Christian, and community member should be. In his spare time, he could be seen at a ball field either coaching or watching. He loved the ocean and spending time in, around, or near the water. Michael was a member at Two Rivers Church in New Bern and stood strong in his relationship with the Lord. He worked in admissions at UMO for 4 years until just recently began his teaching career at HJ MacDonald. Michael was very active in the community. He was always helping out where he could. The community will miss Michael's smiles, kindness, and laughter. He was a man dedicated to making this world a kinder and happier place to live.

He is survived by his wife, Teresa Lane; beloved daughter, Madison Lane; mother, Linda Kornegay Lane; father, Charles Ashley Lane; sisters, Donna Lane Miller and her husband Jeff, and Barbara Lane. Michael had 4 nephews and 2 nieces that he dearly loved. A funeral service to celebrate Michael's life will be held at 6:00 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Abilena Plantation, 2814 Old Cherry Point Road, New Bern. The family will visit with friends from 4:30 to 6:00 pm at Abilena. A private casket burial will be held on Friday.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Michael's name may be made to Two Rivers Church.

What a beautiful service tonight for one of our squad. Pamie Reese you did a beautiful job. What great words were shared from some of our own Warcub babies. What an impact Michael Lane had on our Squad in such a short time. Peace and love be with his family.

"Mike", as we knew him worked with me at the Cherry Tree House on the base at Cherry Point. He was a joy to work with and my daughters and all of the kids loved him. I recently saw him and he still remembered my daughter's name after all of these years. He will be missed.

Once a Warcub, Always a Warcub.

Coach Lane was only here at HJ MacDonald for a short period of time, but he became a Warcub instantly. We talked about baseball and he jumped right in helping this years team. Coach Lane made an impact on the lives of the 20 players and the coaching staff and will forever be remembered for his lone opportunity to operate as head coach for a few innings after I got tossed. Coach Lane was not one to let an opportunity pass and his words on the field that day will live on in HJ lore: As I was leaving the field after an argument with the umpire and a "debate" over whether that ump was telling the truth... Coach Lane from the dugout yelled to the umpire "He's calling you a liar because you're lying!!!"

Coach, you had my back that day and I will have yours. Rest Easy Brother in Christ, we will coach together again one day!

I will most definitely miss our talks, laughter, and catching up everytime we talked. Words can't explain nor can I fathom your passing away so suddenly. You always had a smile on your face and I will soooo miss us being silly everytime we saw each other!
You always talked so much about the love for your wife and daughter.... I know you are watching over them. Your spirit is now in Heaven with our Heavenly Father which makes me rejoice and peaceful in knowing that. You will be missed and my prayers goes out to the family.

This was such a tragic loss for our family. Michael brought the “entertainment” to all of our family gatherings. We have so many great memories and we will hold them close to us forever. He deeply loved Teresa and Madison was his entire heart. He made it home first, but we will see him again soon.
