Charlette Kay (Henry) Hooks, 51, of New Bern, NC, formerly of Benwood, WV, died unexpectedly on Monday, November 2nd, 2015. She leaves her spouse, Russ Becker, and her son, Trevor Hooks of New Bern, NC.
Charlette was born to Helen (Dobbs, Leek) and Orville Henry, Jr. on August 29, 1964 in Glendale, WV. She studied first surgical technology and later nursing in Wheeling, WV. Charlette lived some years in Massachusetts, working at Boston Children's Hospital, where she was particularly adept at assisting in difficult craniofacial surgery. After more study, she became a traveling nurse, and her first stint took her to North Carolina, where she married and became a devoted mother, while continuing a full-time nursing career. For the last several years she was an insightful, compassionate nurse at RHA Howell Care Center in New Bern, where the staff and all the kids loved her.
Charlette was sometimes fondly referred to as a firecracker, not simply because of her strawberry blonde hair and sparkling laughter, but also because of her rich storytelling, mischievous humor, and get-it-done energy. Health problems have subdued her fire these last years, but she is a flame-bright memory for all who have been touched by her love.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm Monday, November 9, at Nauvoo Ridge Cemetery in Glen Easton, WV, where Charlette's ashes will be buried alongside her mother and her brother Dave Allen Henry. A Remembrance Luncheon will follow at the Moundsville Baptist Church on Fourth and Annadale Streets, Moundsville, WV.
