On Saturday, August 27th, Christopher Barbour Rivenbark went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ after passing from complications with esophageal cancer. Chris was a professional musician with Front Street Band and was employed with Trent Power Equipment repairing lawnmowers, which he absolutely loved both. Chris’s passion for music was evident at an early age and he enjoyed every minute of every band he was ever part of and loved showing off his musical talent on stages across the state and southeast. Music was Chris’s life and he was regarded as one of the best lead guitarists from Eastern, North Carolina shredding classic rock-n-roll for over 4 decades. After Chris gave his life to Christ, you could find him most Sunday’s playing guitar with the praise team at Antioch Free Will Baptist Church.
He was very proud of his family heritage with Barbour Boat Works as well as WJ Gaskins & Sons Logging where he found his niche following in the family business by becoming a professional logger, running WJ Gaskins & Sons Logging. He particularly enjoyed his role as a “loader man” and you could often see an irremovable smile on his face while he was “just a swinging!”
Chris is survived by his “Barbie Doll” wife Barbara Toler Rivenbark and sons Lynwood Toler, Jr. and David Toler (wife Erin). Additionally, Chris is survived by his daughter Miranda Rivenbark and son Chris Barbour Rivenbark, Jr. as well as his loving mother Janice Gentry Gaskins, father, Rembert Reginald (Reggie) Rivenbark, Jr. and wife Catherine. Chris’s brothers, Rembert Reginald (Sam) Rivenbark (wife Gail) and William (Jay) Gaskins, III (wife Cristle) and his nephew, who was more like a brother, David Lee Bright (wife Phyllis). Chris is also survived by his grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins who he all loved! He is preceded in death by His dad, WJ Gaskins, Jr. (Johnny), Grandparents WJ Gaskins, Sr. (Bill) and Marie Gaskins and Herbert W. and Robena Davis Barbour and sister Leigh Gaskins Bright.
The family will receive friends and family at Cotten Funeral Home Wednesday, August 31st at 4pm for visitation followed by a celebration of life service. Graveside will be Thursday, September 1st at 10am, at Greenleaf Memorial Park’s Lakeside Chapel. All are welcome!
