Daniel Clayton Benton

October 11, 1994July 1, 2019

Funny, charming, full of life are the words often used to describe Daniel Benton. Daniel was always our mischievous one, we were on a first name basis with every school Principal Daniel ever had. Our precious baby boy left us on July 1, 2019, he died as he lived and did it his way. We will forever miss those twinkling blue eyes and quick smile that he won people over with immediately. Daniel graduated from Southwest High School in Jacksonville, NC in May of 2013, he played football at Southwest and was the Defensive MVP his senior year. Daniel went on to Chowan University where he continued to play football his freshman year. Most recently Daniel was a realtor with Keller Williams in New Bern and loved helping people find the perfect home. Left behind to treasure his memory are his loving parents, J. Vann Benton and Lisa Ward Benton, his older brother Captain James Isaac Benton (US Army) and fiancé Casey Lei Giambalvo. Daniel is also survived by his paternal grandparents J.B. and Eunice Benton of Fremont, NC. He was the grandson of the late Daniel Clayton Ward, Jr. and Mary Underwood Ward. A celebration of Daniel’s life will be held at the River Bend Country Club located at 94 Shoreline Drive, New Bern NC on Friday July 5, 2019 from 1pm to 3pm. Please dress casually as that is what Daniel would have wanted. At the family’s request please do not send flowers please make donations to: The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP). Arrangements by Cotton Funeral Home & Crematory. Online Condolences may be made to the Benton family at www.cottenfuneralhome.com

Daniel and I both played on the "brO-Line" for the Sanderson HS football team. I wasn't the closest to him out of all the lineman, but I can truly say he was loved by that group of guys, as well as the team as a whole. Daniel is truly missed by the brO-Line.

Lisa, I remember mischievous little boys tearing up the neighborhood. And yep they were all boys, having fun getting into different scrapes. I am so sorry for your loss. Just remember, even though our loved ones aren't physically with us, they will always be a part of our thoughts and lives because of our love for them.

Lisa, my dear friend, I am so sad that you and your family have to say goodbye to Daniel here on earth and promote him to his heavenly home. I know all too well there were many memories left unmade. Please know that I am praying for your family even though I know your grief runs deep. I pray that God's peace, comfort and love will support you in the days ahead.
