Daphne Goodwin Riggs

Daphne Goodwin Riggs 93, passed away on July 16th, 2011 at Bayview Nursing Home & Rehab Center on July 16, 2011, at the age of 93. Daphne was born on October 1, 1917, at Cedar Island, North Carolina.

Daphne was a member of the Spring Garden Baptist Church and enjoyed worshiping and fellowship with her church congregation. She was also a member of the Spring Garden Women’s Auxiliary, and a member of the St. Clair Sunday School Class. She had many friends and loved ones.

She is preceded in death by her son, Edward “Big Red” Riggs, a grandson, Terry Lynn Buck, a son in law Terry Buck, and five sisters, and two brothers.

She is survived by a daughter, Joyce Riggs Frazier and husband Lewis; son, Alton Ray “Red” Riggs and wife Cathy; daughter in law, Louise D. Riggs, all of New Bern. She is also survived by ten grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

Daphne enjoyed traveling when she was able, and visited most of the states at one time or another. She enjoyed being with her family and loved her grandchildren very much. She was the “caregiver” for all of her sisters. She, at one time worked in the nursing profession.

She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She will be missed by all those who knew her.

Funeral services will be held at Cotten Funeral Home on Monday, July 18, 2011 at 2:30 PM. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, from 1:30 to 2:30 PM. Rev. Dr. Jack Hinton will officiate the services.
