OBITUARY
Dolores A. Groshans
April 18, 1928 – March 24, 2014
Dolores (Dee) Amelia Groshans, 84, died March 24, 2014, with family by her side in New Bern, North Carolina. She was born April 18, 1928 in English Lake, Indiana to Richard and Stella Christensen. Her father was a farmer and Dolores helped as a young girl with many chores developing a love for animals. Throughout her life she raised many puppies and always had one as a trusty companion.
Dolores attended Purdue University and was an active member of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education. While at Purdue, she met M. Wesley Groshans whom she married on July 8, 1951. Wesley enlisted in the United States Air Force and they were first stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas. They were later transferred to California and settled in Heyward. Dolores taught home economics in the local school system and developed a lifelong passion for cooking and nutrition. With his enlistment completed, they returned to Indiana to raise their family. Dolores gave birth to four boys in six years and was very proud of how close they remained throughout her life. Wesley and Dolores spent 40 wonderful years together before he returned to the Lord in 1991.
In 1996 Dolores searched for a warmer climate and looked throughout coastal Virginia and North Carolina. She fell in love with New Bern and its beautiful scenery and located there in the same year. She became an active member of the Bridgeton United Methodist Church and actively participated in many committees and projects. She was very passionate about using her gifts to the glory of God and spent countless hours preparing crafts for the Church’s annual fall bazaar. Her interests included family, cooking, sewing, craftwork and reading. She devoted much of her time and energy as a caregiver to family members and was extremely proud of her grandchildren.
Mrs Groshans is survived by her brother, Carl Christensen; and sons Mark Groshans of New Bern, Scott Groshans (Laura) of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Andy Groshans (Mary) of Carlisle, Pennsylvania and Dave Groshans (Lynn) of Pagosa Springs, Colorado. She is also survived by three grandchildren. Dolores was preceded in death by her husband M. Wesley Groshans, her brother Albert Christensen, and grandson Daniel B. Groshans.
A memorial service will be held at Bridgeton United Methodist Church on Sunday, March 30th at 1:00 PM.
