

Dominic F. "Nick" O'Donnell, 86, of New Bern, formerly of Fairfax, VA, died Friday, October 24, 2014. Nick was born on January 20, 1928 in Washington, D.C. He was the son of the late Dominic and Catherine O'Donnell. He graduated from St. John's Academy in Washington D.C. As a World War II Veteran, he participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He was also a researcher for the Library of Congress and worked in nucleonics at Walter Reed. Nick was an avid historian, gun collector, voluntary tour guide at Tryon Palace Museum, and a great story teller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty O'Donnell, and his only brother, D. Patrick O'Donnell. Nick and Betty retired in New Bern and made many wonderful friends. They loved New Bern and were very active in the community.
His family extends their deepest appreciation to our extended family and friends. Nick was truly loved and will be deeply missed by all.
The family will receive relatives and friends at Cotten Funeral Home, on Monday, October 27 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at St. Paul's Catholic Church, on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 1:00 p.m.
