Pad was a proud graduate of New Bern High School, Class of 1978. He dedicated many years of his life to serving others through his work with the North Carolina Department of Transportation, where he worked as an Engineer Specialist until his retirement. Following his retirement from NCDOT, Pad continued working with Gannett Fleming.
While Pad took great pride in his work, those who knew and loved him will remember him most for the way he lived his life and the people who meant the most to him. He had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed surfing, fishing, and hunting. He appreciated the simple pleasures of being outside and making memories along the way. But above all else, Pad treasured his family and friends. There was nothing he enjoyed more than simply hanging out with the people he loved, sharing stories, laughter, and good times together.
Pad was preceded in death by his parents, Leo Ray Johnson and Hazel Eiland Johnson as well as his beloved wife, Marsha Johnson, who passed away on February 20, 2021. Their love and the memories they created together will remain a cherished part of his family’s lives.
Pad leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory in their hearts. He is survived by his four children, Jessica Hand, Marjorie Wallace, Aric Wallace, and Stephanie Broadway; three grandchildren, Katelyn Wallace, Jeremiah Wallace, and Jacob Rosado; and three sisters, Sandi Jesse, Vicky Johnson, and Kathy Taylor.
Though his time with us has come to an end, Pad’s memory will live on through the many lives he touched and the countless memories he created with his family and friends. His love, laughter, friendship, and the moments shared together will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
The family will receive friends from 12:00–1:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 27th, at Cotten Funeral Home in New Bern. A memorial service celebrating Pad’s life will follow at 1:00 p.m.
