

She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, with a servant's heart. Donnal was a blessing to many people throughout her life. She was humble, kind, and simply amazing. Donnal impacted the lives of many students and families in her 30 years of teaching. She helped to establish the staff house, which was a haven for pregnant mothers. She was involved in the fight against human trafficking.
She also loved blessing children through Operation Christmas Child. She wrote children's books, which she donated to help children of abuse and she enjoyed writing hymns of praise. Her life was filled with love and compassion for others.
Donnal was preceded in death by her parents, Audrey and Helen Kennedy; two brothers, Delbert and Audrey Jr Kennedy; and son-in-law, Jay O'Dell.
She is survived by her loving husband, Allen Harriett; three daughters, Kathryn Pope (Scott), Michelle Ray (Russell), and Sheri O'Dell; sister, Barbara Sykes; thirteen grandchildren, Kelsey Ray, Chloe Pope, Noel Ray, Brie Ray, Sophie Norris, Aylana Ray, Canaan Ray, Eden Ray, Ellie O'Dell, Russell Ray II, Asya Ray, Kaleigh Spoon (Hunter), and Jacob O'Dell; and one great-grandchild, Maisie Jae Spoon.
The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Tabernacle Baptist Church in New Bern. The service will begin at 2:00 pm. Donnal will be laid to rest following the service at Pollocksville Cemetery.
