

Doris grew up in rural North Carolina, along with six brothers. Her earliest achievements were "Best All-Around 7th Grader", high school class Valedictorian and attending college in the late 1940s. In the 1950s, she married her husband, Bob, of 47 years, settled in New Bern and began her 40-year career as a bookkeeper for several local businesses. She loved being with family and spending special times over shared meals, holidays, and summer beach trips. Her pursued interests and hobbies included reading, gardening, travel, singing, dancing and moreover, creative writing.
Doris is survived by her daughters, Lynn Stemke (John) and Melanie Dyson (Roger); grandchildren, Ash and Megan; and several loving family members and close friends.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Dyson.
A committal service will be held at 10:00 am on October 7, 2026, at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
