"Precious child so dear, I wish for you these things; first to give you roots, then to give you wings."

Granny Long certainly succeeded at her ministry across five generations.  Whether taking you shopping for a new coat, hemming britches for the boys or dresses for the girls, serving up her hot homemade biscuits (with lots of "budder"), making lots of jars of fudge for everyone at Christmas, crocheting blankets for the "youngins", or crafting dolls in a pot, canvas tissue holders, and beaded Christmas ornaments to give everyone for Christmas... she gave us all solid root in family.  Whether you were waiting tables, slinging burgers, trying to get an education, or "tween  jobs," she was always proud of her family and encouraged you forward.  And if you weren't flying straight, she'd set you straight, usually in just a few loving words!  We will miss her, not being here with us.  But there's comfort in knowing that a part of her lives on in the heart of us all and she is now with our Heavenly Father, who sang to her those most precious words; "Welcome home, thy good and faithful servant."   ~And her prayer was that we all hear the same.~

Thank you mama for all you gave and did for me. You were best mother a child could ask for.

I am not going to say good-bye. I know we will meet again one day.

When saying a farewell to someone you love emotions can overwhelm you. 

There are so many things we could say there would not be enough space.

I, too, lost my best friend and blessed mama. She is in the arms of Jesus and with Daddy, and my grandson Chase.
Mama was my rock and the shoulder I could lean or cry on.

She worked hard and gave all. At times she would do without so us children could have. She loved fishing, going to the mountains, great seamstress, great cook, loving mama.

We had some great times together.

I have an emptiness that can never be filled with Mama and Daddy both gone on to be Jesus. I miss her so much. 

We talked several times during the day.  I miss those calls, hearing her voice.   

 I know we will be together again, someday.

I lost my best friend and loving Mother when God took her home. She was my best fishing partner. We shared many a happy time at our favorite pastime.

Mother was a hard working southern lady. She passed those values to each of her four children. Proverbs 31 was her life. She was worth more than rubies or gold to us. Mother was an accomplished seamstress and a talented crafter.

We shared a lot of laughter and tears together and long distance over the telephone. I miss her more than any words can describe. I know she is with Jesus and this gives me peace in my heart. She is beyond anymore pain and hurt from this old world.

I know I will be with her again, someday.

Christine,Bobby,Lonnie and Alice I was so saddened to hear of Aunt Dorothy's
passing, please know ya'll are in my thoughts and prayers. I know it is a  very hard thing to go thru, but just pray and the Lord will help you get thru day by day.

Our beautiful granny Long was a gentle, loving, caring soul.  As children me and my brothers looked forward to the trip to granny longs house.  Every christmas we would visit granny and shed always send us home with a mason jar full of fudge shed make every year. The jar would always be empty before we ever made it home. To me that fudge was the taste of childhood. Even as granny got older and weaker, she would still always try to make it to every birthday party and family event.  For years granny would tell us the story of my little brothers birth.  And she was there when my daughter,Abigail,  had her first taste of cake at her first birthday party.  Family meant everything to granny.  She loved unconditionally.   We will forever be sad that she is no longer with us here on earth but I know she'll be there waiting for us all on the other side.  I know granny will always watch over all of us from heaven, with a smile. We love you dearly granny long!

To Alice and all the family we send our sympathy  during this difficult time.  Just take comfort in knowing she is now on her greatest, most wonderful journey ever!                        Lash & Ann

I remember being little. My mom had a friend who lived close to granny long I'd always come speak when we were visiting she always had candy for me. I looked forward to it and was never let down. While I was there she had to tell me the story about her being the first one to see me when i was born. I always replied " yes I saw you, I just decided not to say anything"  she was tickled every time. I'm gonna miss her and her sassy self. Love you granny long I know your at peace

Dorothy was my older sister and I do did love her, I am so sorry she pass away before Georgie my wife and myself got to she her before this happen. We did love her and Hubert and all the good times. Thurman and Georgie Bell

Bob,Lonnie,Chris and Alice, I am so sorry hearing Aunt Dorothy has passed. I can't tell you all how much she and Uncle Hubert helped me through my own Mothers passing. They were a great comfort to me. Time helps but never fills the "missing" feelings. Know I am with you in the difficult days ahead. Love you all and my prayers are with you.
