OBITUARY

Duane Stanley Blades

February 18, 1947July 11, 2019

Duane Stanley Orice Blades was born in Boston, Massachusetts on February 18th, 1947 to Stanley and Lorraine Blades. He gained his angel wings on July 11th, 2019.

Duane was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was loved by so many and will be greatly missed, but we rejoice for him because he has made it to his Heavenly home.

He is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Diane, of 50 years, his daughter Marci Wilson (fiancé Tim Barrow), his son Joshua Blades (wife Kerry Partis), his sister Doreen Snyder and Great Aunt Donna Lentini. Duane is also survived by two granddaughters, Jordan Adams (husband Christopher Adams) and Madison Wilson. He has one great grandson, Wyatt Bruce Scott Adams, who was the apple of his eye and always kept him on his toes and young at heart. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Duane spent the first several years of his adult life serving his country in the United States Marine Corp. He met his wife, Diane, while in the military and he quickly became involved in her home church, Cove City FWB. The strong spiritual influence of Aunt Annie Heath and his Father -in-Law, Richard Murphy led him to the Lord. He became a very active member which eventually led him to serve as a pillar of the church. He was an active deacon, a Sunday School teacher-which he took speech classes for, so that he could overcome his fear of public speaking, because the Lord called on him to lead and share the gospel to others. He held several other offices such as pulpit, finance and building committee and also served as Interim Pastor in times of need. His church and church family meant everything to him.

After being Honorably Discharged from the USMC, he went to work at Hatteras Yachts as an Industrial Engineer and retired after 30 years. Duane led a very active lifestyle within the Cove City community. He was an avid cyclist and rode with a local, coastal group for many years. He was also a St. Bernard lover and rescued 6 over the course of many years.

His love for baseball led in him to the world of tiny tots just learning to hold a bat. For the next 25 years, he coached 100s of kids from 5 to 25. His love for the game inspired both of his children to play ball and even lead his son Joshua to college on a baseball scholarship. He was an active member of Cove City Rescue Squad for over 10 years, even holding the office of Captain for several years.

Duane was an easy-going person that would give you the shirt off of his own back if you needed it. Always there to lend a helping hand any way he could. He was a natural born leader with a strong ability to quickly solve any problems that life threw his way. His love for God, Country and Family were indisputable.

Please keep the wonderful, loving, lasting memories of this rare, great man, close to your heart.
