Durwood’s working career included working as a drink salesman for 20 plus years, Furniture Fair and was a top salesman for Riverside for eight years.
When he wasn’t working he loved playing with the grandkids. Before he got sick he also enjoyed riding and traveling on his motorcycle and was a member of the Palace City Wings Motorcycle Club.
He is predeceased by his Parents, Horace Byrd and Ellen Robbins (John); brothers, Robert Earl Byrd and Tony Lee Byrd.
He is survived by his daughters, Angela Byrd Shelters (Jaycee) and Tammy Marie Willis (Wesley); grandchildren, Brian Shelters (Kelli), Zack Shelters, Tyler Shelters, Kendra Shelters, Cameron Shelters, Ashley Threet, Wesley Willis, Chelsey Ridings (Jacob); great grandchildren, Kensley Shelters, Keegan Shelters and Taylor Shelters.
The family will receive friends Thursday April 4, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, April 5, 2024 at Cotten Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenleaf Memorial Park. The family encourages everyone to dress casual.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Epilepsy Foundation of North Carolina.
