Edwin "Ed" Francis Hickok

Ed was born and raised in Springfield, Ohio. He and his wife moved to Carteret County in the early 1980s. He worked as a truck driver and painter for International Harvester Company until his retirement.

A devoted member of Annunciation Catholic Church, Ed’s faith was at the center of his life. Each morning, he could be found faithfully saying his prayers and praying the rosary.

Ed was a dedicated family man who never met a stranger. He loved taking road trips, and his family often joked that if you were going somewhere with him, you had better pack a lunch. He was happiest when being outdoors. He never sat still and always found something to keep himself busy.

In his younger years, Ed enjoyed motorcycles, antique cars, boating, and family vacations. Above all, he treasured the time he spent with those he loved.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Lois; his daughters, Sherry Agee and Kay Zerkle; and his granddaughter, Julie Zerkle.

Ed is survived by his son, Jim Hickok and wife, Lorrie, of Cove City; his daughter, Nancy Jo Dixon and husband, Danny, of Newport; and more than 20 grandchildren including great-great-great-grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at Annunciation Catholic Church, followed by a private burial at St. Paul Catholic Church, St. Joseph Cemetery in New Bern.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregiving of Georgia Newkirk and the caregiving staff at Crystal Coast Hospice House.
