Elton Collier Aycock, 72, of New Bern, NC, passed away on Sunday, February 25, 2024. He was born on October 14, 1951, in Fremont, NC and graduated from Charles B. Aycock High School. After obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from UNC-Chapel Hill, Collier went on to have a successful career in sales and management with two large national companies, and rose to the top of his profession. He loved serving as a mentor to those with whom he worked.
He was a gifted artist, avid reader, and a passionate gardener, known as the “flower man” by his neighbors. As he grew older, his child-like joy in nature deepened. His curiosity in the natural world was boundless. He was thrilled by meteor showers and sunrises and sunsets.
An avid UNC basketball fan, he rarely missed watching a game with his family. Throughout his life, his heart always led him to support and protect those less fortunate. Over decades, his care of and devotion to this brother, Mark, injured in a motorcycle accident, revealed not only a gentle and loving soul, but an incredibly strong spirit that persevered.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Woodrow and Josphine Aycock. He is survived by his brothers, Wayne Aycock (Lynn) of Wilmington, NC, Mark Aycock of New Bern, and his sister Jan Aycock, also of New Bern.
A Celebration of Life is being planned for May to be held in New Bern. Further details will be forthcoming. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Craven County Health Foundation- Animal Services, 1639 Old Airport Road, New Bern, NC 28562.
Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Elton Collier Aycock.
