Erik Meilhede

Erik Meilhede, 89, died of natural causes on January 19, 2012 in New Bern, North Carolina. Born June 14, 1922 in Copenhagen, Denmark, Erik immigrated to the US in 1948. He lived with his family in New York and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia before retiring to Boiling Spring Lakes, North Carolina.

He graduated from the Polytechnical Institute of The Technical University of Denmark with a degree in Civil and Structural Engineering and was the engineer responsible for the design and construction of major highway projects in New York as well as airport projects in New York and Saudi Arabia.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Birte Meilhede of New Bern, NC; sons Jan Meilhede (Carolyn), Dennis Meilhede (Anne), daughters Linda Meilhede and Diana Griffin (Reggie), grandchildren Nicole Westcott, Brenton (Lauren) Meilhede, Erica Meilhede, Cason Griffin; and great-grandson Liam Meilhede. He was preceded in death by grandson Mitchell Westcott.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Erik’s name to the American Heart Association.
