Esther Horne Joyner 71, of Pinetops, NC passed away at her home on Tuesday, February, 16, 2021.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Eleanor Horne, and daughter, Rebecca Lynn Joyner, and sister, Loraine Gordon.

Esther is survived by her beloved husband of 50 years James Joyner, daughter, Katharine Joyner Burch of Pinetops, NC, brothers, Leonard “Buzzy” Horne (Robbie) of Albany, GA, Larry L. Horne (Joan) of Virginia, granddaughters, Jessica Burch and, Sara Burch.

Esther spent her early adulthood as the proud wife of an Army MP and later moved to Greensboro, NC to support her husband as he became a police officer. While in Greensboro, she became a teacher’s assistant at Gateway Education Center, where she helped children for over 15 years. Esther was also a faithful member of Cornerstone Community Church of Rocky Mount, NC. She spent most of her life as a caregiver to so many people, especially her friends, family, and the handicapped.

“She took care of her husband for over 50 years, and so many others, and now Jesus is taking care of her.”

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February, 23, 2021 from 1:00pm-2:00pm at Cotten Funeral Home, the funeral service will begin at 2:00pm of Tuesday, February, 23, 2021 at Cotten Funeral Home. Burial will follow in New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
