Gene was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of John A. (Al) and Iris (nee Gamberini) Fioravanti. He grew up in Huntington, New York and graduated from Belknap College in New Hampshire with the Bachelor’s Degree in Physics. There he met and married Barbara Kussmaul, and together they joined the Peace Corps and served in Santiago, Chile.
Upon returning to the USA and settling in upstate New York, Gene worked as a mechanical engineer, first at Huyck research Center, then at James Hunter Machine Co., and then at Bruno Machinery. After retirement he worked as an independent engineering consultant.
He enjoyed boating, gardening, and building and fixing things.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Fioravanti; daughters Wendy Fioravanti (Mark Saxby) and Deanna Bursey (Jay); granddaughters Iris, Lillian and Grace Bursey; and his sister Carole McLaughlin and her daughters Jaqueline, Valerie and Gwendolyn.
He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Iris Fioravanti.
A Celebration of Eugene’s Life will be held at a later date.
