

Evelyn “Eve” Chamberlain, 81 of New Bern, died May 12, 2011 at Bayview Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Eve was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 13, 1930 to the late DeWitt and Harriett Penn. She attended Lakewood Ohio Public Schools and Oberlin College, obtaining a Batchelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She taught for four years in Riverside, CT and then at the Rye Country Day School in Rye, NY for 29 years. There, she was instrumental in starting the use of personal computers for classroom use and spearheaded several new elementary level programs in reading, writing and mathematics. She and her family were members of the Rye Presbyterian Church where she taught summer bible classes for several years.
Moving to New Bern in 1995, Eve participated as a member of the Greenbrier Social Committee, then chaired the Greenbrier Arts and Crafts Show for seven years.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Bob, two sons, Rex and wife Ami of Princeton, IL; David and wife Donna of Madison, AL; grandchildren, Katherine Chamberlain of Princeton, IL; Catherine Hereford of Madison, AL; Beth Patin of Seattle, WA; and great-grandson, Maren Hereford.
Visitation will be from 3:00-5:00 pm Sunday, May 15, 2011 at Cotten Funeral Home. Reception and remembrances will be held privately. Interment will be held at a later date in Oberlin Ohio.
