She was a proud 1956 graduate of Newport High School and attended East Carolina University. Frances later moved to Charlotte and worked as a secretary at Dan River. Years later, she worked at First Citizens Bank in New Bern before a serious illness led her to retire. Later, Frances worked to care for local seniors and enjoyed coordinating group trips to Ireland and to other neighboring states.
In her free time, Frances most enjoyed making memories with her family. She loved taking day trips to Atlantic Beach and longer excursions to Myrtle Beach with loved ones. Like her mama and daddy, Frances was a loyal follower of the UNC Tar Heels, a passionate fan of Willie Nelson and humorist Lewis Grizzard, and generally a lover of "all things southern." Frances was blessed with many loyal friends in her life. She was also a "mom" to many cherished fur babies over the years.
Frances was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Predeceased by her parents, Frances is survived by her sister Virginia Hawkins, brother-in-law Henry Hawkins, niece Kelly Fields, nephew Spencer Hawkins, Beth Hawkins, grand-nieces Hannah Hawkins, Brooke Fields, and Kathryn Fields, and grand-nephew Owen Hawkins.
Followed by a private graveside service, a celebration of Frances' life will be held at 3:00 Tuesday September 7th at Trinity United Methodist Church. Family will welcome friends before or after the service. Contributions to Trinity United Methodist Church are appreciated.
