"World traveler and Volunteer Coordinator extraordinaire, Frances Norris Andrews Campbell died peacefully on April 11, 2021 after a valiant five-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by loved ones who, inspired by the strength and courage she exhibited throughout her life, will honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest.
Fran was born in Greensboro, NC on July 9, 1932 to Paul M. and Beatrice W. Andrews. For over 30 years she worked for the American Red Cross. She spent eight years as Volunteer Coordinator with Service to Military Families in Stuttgart, Germany. Those European tours were her happiest. She traveled extensively throughout Europe and instilled a love for travel and adventure in her family. After returning to the States, she continued her work with the Red Cross and was a tireless disaster volunteer, braving floods, hurricanes and the Oklahoma City Federal Building bombing. Helping those in need, in crisis, was her calling. With an indefatigable work ethic, she retired from the Red Cross and found a second career as the Volunteer Coordinator at Tryon Palace in New Bern, NC.
She spent the last years of her life comfortably at home in New Bern with her treasured dog, Millie Grace and her beloved caregiver & friend Teresa Miller.
She never stopped watching the billowing clouds drift across the sky. Flowers, birds, faces, dogs, women in hats, butterflies, castles frequently appeared to her as it did to her family on the last day of her life.
Frances is survived by her two children, four grandchildren and brother. A private family celebration of her life will be held at a future date."
Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the family of Frances Norris Andrews Campbell.
