Loyal husband, devoted father, dedicated Brother Knight
Doug was born to parents Lloyd and Dorothy in Jersey City, NJ, along with his brother Bob. He attended St. Anthony’s High School in Jersey City, then went to college at the University of Tennessee at Martin, where he met his future wife Betty. Betty and Doug married in August of 1972. They returned to New Jersey to begin their life together, having their son Craig in 1978 and daughter Lauren in 1982. Having always had both an interest in and a proficiency in the fields of business, finance and economics, he shared his knowledge, experience and expertise as an educator with DeVry University for over twenty years.
As a devout Catholic, Doug considered it a lifelong passion fulfilled that he had the opportunity to travel to Rome and visit the Vatican. Doug was an active member of the Knights of Columbus from his early adult years, being a 4th Degree member. He went on to become further involved during his years as a life insurance salesman. He was dedicated to taking part in carrying out the mission of the Knights, helping to raise money for its many charitable efforts.
While he was proud to wear UT orange at every opportunity, Doug was a Jersey boy at heart, even after he and Betty moved to New Bern, NC in 2017. He rooted for the New Jersey Devils, the New York Giants and New York Yankees, and took great joy in connecting with people he met who he could identify with from the family’s days in New Jersey. He was passionate about playing golf, listening to the music of his childhood and celebrating in the successes and passions of his wife and children who he loved very much, and was always so very proud of.
