George Raymond Holt, 54, passed away on October 5, 2026. He was born on March 21, 1972. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother, George will be remembered with deep respect for a life marked by devotion, courage, and steady inspiration to those who had the privilege of knowing him.
Raised in Michigan, George spent his early years playing football for his school. He greatly admired his uncle Russ, and it was in that admiration—and the example set before him—that George chose to join the United States Marines.
At the age of 19, George entered the Marine Corps and honorably served his country through multiple deployments until his retirement. Among his most cherished memories were the days spent training with his fellow Marines and the lifelong bonds formed through service—relationships built on loyalty, shared purpose, and enduring respect.
George is survived by his wife of 16 years, Lori Holt, with whom he shared a blended family. He is also survived by his siblings Douglas Holt Jr., Marlo Clemmons, and Margaret Holt-Lewis; his children Kaitlynn Wallace and George Holt II; his step-daughters Michelle Zeas and Taryn Oleary; and his grandchildren Ryker Holt, Lennox Holt, Ethan Kemp, Dylan Kemp, and Colton Kemp.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marion Sue Holt; his father, Douglas Wayne Holt; and his beautiful daughter, Kyla Kay Holt.
Outside of his service, George found meaning and peace in the simple, steady joys of life—working in his father’s yard, going out fishing, working on cars, and woodworking. Yet above all else, his greatest joy was time spent with his grandchildren, who were at the center of his heart and home.
George was, in every sense, a warrior. He faced cancer, the realities of war, and physical complications connected to his years of service with brave resolve. His legacy will live on through his son George, his grandson Ryker, and his nephew Zach Lewis, who continues a tradition of service to others as a State trooper.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Carolina East Medical Center for all that they do, with special gratitude to Barbara—his guardian angel.
Once a Marine, always a Marine.
Semper Fidelis.
Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory is honored to have served the family of George Raymond Holt.
