Gerald loved the Lord and diligently served him as a pastor at several churches. One church that Gerald made a great impact on was New Covenant Church in New Bern, NC where he started the children's church program. The church is grateful for all of the time that he invested into this program because it is still thriving today. When Gerald was not serving at church, he worked, and retired from, Hatteras Yachts. After retiring from Hatteras, he enjoyed being self-employed as a carpenter and working with wood was his passion. All of those who knew Gerald loved him and will greatly miss him.
He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Rees; son, Gerald James Rees, Jr.; daughters, Elizabeth Rees Taylor (Jeffrey), Martha Rees Willard (Tim), and Mary Louise Rees; sister, Mary "Mitzi" Ellen Polley; grandchildren, Michael "Tyler" Lee (Olivia), Faryn Lee Eubanks (Dustin), Forrest B. Finch (Christiana), Griffin D. Finch, Hanna Spears, (Riley) , Samuel Willard, and Chelsea Taylor; great-grandchildren, Logan Rhys Finch, Leslie Henson, Lillian Spears, Maverick Spears, Lennox Spears, and Connor Taylor; and many loving nieces, nephews, and close friends.
He is preceded in death by his great granddaughter, Paisley Taylor; brothers, Howard Rees, Herbert Rees, and Joe Rees; and sisters, Lillian Rees Chase, Wilma Rees Foltz, Doris Rees, and Gladys Rees Campbell.
A Celebration of Gerald's Life will be held on Friday, August 12, 2022 at 1:00 PM at New Covenant Church in New Bern with Rev. Ben Britt, Aletha Britt, and Chaplin Jacob Snyder officiating the service.
