

He served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Wade was a member of Crossroads Baptist Church and the VFW and he enjoyed fishing. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Edith Jordan Gardner, his parents, Woodard and Mamie Gardner, three brothers and one sister.
Wade is survived by his wife Lola W. Gardner, one son, Henry “Hank” Gardner, Jr. of Black Mountain, NC; one daughter, Shirley G. Keeter and husband Allen of Washington, NC; one sister, Anne Rowe and husband Bobby of Wilson, NC; his step-children, Susan Branton of Vanceboro; and Perry G. Turner of New Bern; his grandchildren, Allison K. Hanchey of Washington; Stephen A. Keeter and wife Amy of Garner; Bryan Branton and wife Jessica of Ernul; Julie Broadway and husband Jamie of Ernul; Perry G. Turner, Jr. of Vanceboro; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at 6:00 pm Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Crossroads Baptist Church, followed by a funeral service at 7:00 pm, with Rev. Buford Lewis officiating. Burial will be held at 11:00 am Friday, April 27, 2012 at Maplewood Cemetery in Wilson, NC.
