Horace Lendell Brockington Sr.

Horace Lendell Brockington Sr., affectionately known as “Brock”, was born on July 30, 1953 in Hartsville, SC to Leroy Sr. and Lois Brockington. Horace graduated from Douglass High School in Baltimore, MD.

After high school he joined the USMC, became a 1st SGT where he received medals, awards, and accommodations, and retired after 27 years. During his time in the USMC, he met the love of his life, Sonja Brockington who he married on July 14, 1978. This union produced two children, Horace L. Brockington Jr. and Aaron L. Brockington Sr., this blissful union would go on to last for 48 years until his passing.

In 1999, he began his career as the Head of Security at FRC East onboard Cherry Point where he received numerous awards and merits of service. In 2004, Horace graduated college from NC College of Theology and Justice Fellowship College of Theology with a Bachelors in Biblical Studies. He served as a Reverend at Star Zion Missionary Baptist Church before becoming a pastor in 2015 at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church.

Horace is survived by his wife, Sonja Brockington, two sons, Horace L. Brockington Jr. and Aaron L. Brockington Sr. (Katarri), brothers, Hazel W. Brockington, Charles E. Brockington (Patricia), and Phillip Brockington, sister, Deloris L. Brockington, grandchildren, Jalen Johnson, Diamond Johnson, Ty’Quasia Styron (Dominick), Horace Brockington III, Jasmine Brockington, Aaron Brockington Jr. (Shelby), Aareona Brockington, Nasir Brockington, Jehki Martin, and Hassan Brockington and 7 great grandchildren.

Horace was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy Brockington Sr. and Lois Brockington and brothers, Harold Brockington, Leroy Brockington Jr., Robert Brockington, and Larry Brockington.

Horace was a dedicated pastor and touched many lives. He was passionate about his community by visiting the sick and elders. He enjoyed pastoring his flock and mentoring youth. He was most remembered by his family for watching westerns, riding bikes with his grandchildren, spending time with his family, and working on his yard.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at 11:00 am at Cotten Funeral Home. The family will receive friends following the service.

A Graveside Funeral Service with Marine Corps Military Honors will be held at Coastal Carolina State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Montford Point Rd., Jacksonville, NC, on Monday, September 21, 2026, at 10:00 am.
