
Ira Andrew Scott, New Bern, NC, died on February 28, 2017 at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC. Ira was born November 14, 1943, the youngest son of the late Leo L. Scott and Mary Theola Rhem Scott of New Bern. He grew up and lived in the Jasper Community of Craven County and was a member of Bethany Christian Church. He attended New Bern High School, Edwards Military Institute, Salemburg, NC, and Jasper High School. After graduation, he attended Hardbarger’s Business College in Raleigh, NC and was employed as a junior accountant.
Later he returned to school and graduated from Pitt Technical Institute, Greenville, NC, with an Associate in Applied Science in Accounting in 1977. In 1978, he obtained his Real Estate Broker’s license. Ira continued with his education and graduated from East Carolina University in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration--Accounting. After college, he returned home and managed the family farm.
Ira knew everyone and everyone knew him. He loved “going out” and he loved people. His distinctive laugh made him recognizable in any crowd. He was observant, quick witted and always had an opinion on any subject, that he was all too willing to share! He felt it was important to look someone in the eye when making a business deal. Ira was loyal to his many friends and kept in touch over the years by frequent phone conversations. Ira was “larger than life”.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Anna Scott Liland , wife of David Liland of New Bern, NC and his sister Shirley Scott Harris, wife of Leon Harris, Raleigh, NC. Ira is survived by his brother, Leo Rhem Scott and his wife, Marilyn of St. George, Utah and his sister Sandra Scott Girton and her husband, Bob of New Bern, NC.
Visitation will be held at Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, from 1 to 2 pm. The funeral will start at 2 pm, followed by a graveside service at Westview Cemetery, 3509 West Vernon Avenue, Kinston, NC.
