

Jackie was born on March 25, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Emma Louisa Mount and Louis Grosvenor Mount. Jackie pursued a wide variety of interests, including travel, gardening, knitting, drawing, cooking and volunteering. She also had a keen interest in history, philosophy and religion and read and wrote extensively.
She was a member of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church in Indianapolis; First Christian Church in Frankfort, KY and Christ Episcopal Church in New Bern.
Jackie is survived by her children, Julie Ruble and her partner Gary Alspaugh of Indianapolis, IN, Jennie Mangun and her husband Ken Morgan of New Bern, Charlotte Rowley and her husband Mike Rowley of Chapin, SC and Joseph Nicholson Barney V and his wife Michele Barney of Medina, OH; grandchildren Heather Lambert, Jeffrey Mattes, Joshua Mattes, William Rather, Eva Sharp, Joe Mangun, and Andrew Barney; great grandchildren Khrysteen Edwards and Kyla Rather; and great great grandchild Penelope Sunday and many other family members and friends.
Jackie is preceded in death by her husband Joseph Nicholson Barney III and her son Joseph Nicholson Barney IV.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2023 at Cotten Funeral Home. Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Christ Episcopal Church with burial to follow at New Bern Memorial Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jackie’s honor to either Christ Episcopal Church New Bern, Shriners Hospitals for Children, Alzheimer’s Association, or CarolinaEast Foundation at www.carolinaeastfoundation.com and your gift will be used for their children's fund, or Gentiva Hospice at 1423 S. Glenburnie Road A, New Bern 28562.
