She is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Mary Helen Chocola; her beloved
granddaughter, Jennifer Williams and her unborn son; and by her loving, supportive, and
constant companion, Jim Shropshire.
After graduating from Uniontown Senior High School in 1945, she worked as the secretary in
the law offices of Spurgeon & Spurgeon. In 1957, Jacqueline moved with her family to District
Heights, MD. She was employed for 11 years as a teacher’s aide in the Prince George’s
County Public Schools. In 1980, she was employed at the Farm Credit Administration,
Washington, DC, as a clerk typist in the Word Processing Center, ending her work there as
manager of the Center. In 1987, she joined the U.S. Department of the Treasury in the Office of
Tax Policy, and was later promoted as the Administrative Assistant to the Deputy Assistant
Secretary for Tax Policy.
Jacqueline retired in March 1995, and in September moved to Oriental, NC. She was a
member of Oriental United Methodist Church, where she served on the Administrative Board,
was president of her Circle, and served as vice-president, then President, of the United
Methodist Women. She held many volunteer positions in Pamlico County: such as mentoring
4th and 5th grade students in various subjects at Fred A. Anderson Middle School. At the
Pamlico County Senior Center, she helped develop and then managed an Adult Day Respite
Program. One of her favorite memories was singing in the Pamlico Chorale, under the direction
of Reba Tiller.
Jacqueline moved to New Bern, NC, with her companion, Jim Shropshire, in 2000. She was a
proud member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She was also a member of and held
the positions of secretary and president in New Bern Chapter 808, National Active and Retired
Federal Employees (NARFE). For many years, she was a volunteer at Craven Regional Medical
Center, now Carolina East Medical Center, in Patient Registration, Surgery Waiting, and at the
Concierge Desk, and was awarded as Volunteer of the Year for Caring.
Jacqueline is survived by her three daughters: Susanne E. Brown, Wasilla, AK; Carol L.
Hodges, Silver Spring, MD; Diane M. Pullis (Pat), Sterling, VA; and son Carl I. Fritsch (Sue),
Upper Marlboro, MD. Her three grandchildren are: Mechelle Ledwith, Michael Fritsch
