He retired from the U.S. Army and he received two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star.
He is survived by three sons, Ricky Phillips of Robersonville; David Phillips of Sanford; Johnny Phillips of Washington, NC; one daughter, Alice Manning of Robersonville; a brother, two sisters and numerous grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Greenleaf Memorial Park.
