Jim was just a good soul.  He cared deeply for his family friends and was always rooting for the underdog.  Many have come to faith in Jesus Christ because of his work.  May he rest in peace.

Jim was one the best guys I ever had the pleasure of working with. We met well over 30 years ago when he joined the Mortgage Company in Westchester, NY.   He was genuine, kind, funny and compassionate with the loan officers he managed.  We kept in touch over the years and was thrilled he found his calling and became a voice of God.

The world needs more Jim Hacketts, to get thru these time.  I am so going to miss the guy.

Our hearts are broken over the death our dear friend Jim.  Even though we didn't agree on everything, we found we shared so many more commonalities than differences.  His presence at St. Paul and tireless work in our community will always be cherished.  Our heartfelt sympathy to Lisa and all his family and those who loved him.

I first met Jim when he was working for Hope House/Catholic Charities. I knew right away that Jim was a holy person, only to find out that he was on his journey to becoming an ordained Catholic Deacon as my husband had done.    I am so sad to offer my heartfelt condolences, but at the same time know that Jim heard these words, welcome home my good and faithful servant!  May faith sustain thru the pain of this loss.

My brother in law Jim and his wife Lisa helped me so much after the loss of my wife, his sister, Kathy. Without their guidance and support I don’t know how I would have survived the sudden loss of my wife. Jim is one of the best people I have ever known. We love you Jim.

This is the last time we were all together, 4 years ago this very weekend. We had hoped to do this again in September and I still hope we can, only this time we'll be remembering you instead of having you with us, hearing your laughter and stories, smoking cigars and eating some good food. My memories of Deacon Jim are from a long long time ago in a world far far away.  As late teenagers and early 20 somethings we spent many a time 'growing up and having fun' as guys did in the 70's.  Most memorable are the times we spent in Belmar NJ and constantly listening to the old WNEW-FM radio station.

Over the years, life got in our way and we each took separate paths, but I followed his journey with OUR Lord through his many Facebook posts from his sumptuous meals at Casa De Hackett, his memorable deacon milestones, and homily posts.

I am truly saddened by this event but as the song says 'Only the good die young'.  Prayers and condolences to Lisa, his children, grandchildren and siblings as they mourn their loss.

I'm sure his family, friends, fellow parishioners at St. Paul's and the entire New Bern community will miss his kindness, spirituality, and seemingly omni-presence.

He has fought the good fight, kept his eye on the prize, and is now receiving his eternal reward.

God has called  - welcome Home - Job well done good and faithful servant.

Deacon Jim was a good friend and a stalwart brother in Christ. The community will miss him greatly. He was behind many of the positive activities oriented toward making a difference in the disenfranchised of New Bern. He exhibited loving his neighbor. I've not heard anything about cause. I know the last couple of times I saw him, he didn't look well. And while it is terrible for us, his faith is now sight. We'll see him again. Rev. Steve Savia
