

A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great‑grandfather, Marine, and public servant, James lived a life marked by loyalty, and an unwavering dedication to those he loved.
James was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Bobbie Jean Sandborn (Rouse). Married on April 14, 1965, James and Bobbie Jean built a life together in Ionia, Michigan, where they raised their two children, Melissa Ann Curry (Sandborn) (57), and James Paul Sandborn Jr. (55). Their marriage was a partnership rooted in devotion, faith, and a shared commitment to family. Together, they created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love.
James was a proud grandfather to Christopher James Drysdale, Alexis Eileen McNabb, Wesley Owen Jones, Lauren Elizabeth Sandborn, and Cormack James Zimmerman‑Sandborn. His joy multiplied with each great‑grandchild: Olivia Ann Drysdale, Ryder Sterling Drysdale, Paul James Drysdale, Diana Jane McNabb, Parker Ann Jones, and Bobbie Quinn Jones.
James is survived by his older brother, Robert Sandborn, of Sunfield, Michigan. He was preceded in death by siblings Bruce, Allen, and Patti, whom he now joins in eternal rest.
James will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Bobbie Jean, in Trenton, North Carolina, on Monday, September 14, 2026, reunited once more with the love of his life.
Graveside services will be 11:00 am Monday September 14, 2026 at Trenton Cemetery and will be conducted by Rev. Herbert P. Curry.
