Jim Travis, 62, passed away on Sunday, March 9, 2014 at home.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Christal Renee Travis, and his beloved aunt and uncle, Len and Verna Brame.

Jim is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deborah Daniels Travis; daughter, Jamie Travis Potter; mother, Claire Travis; brother, Charles Toler (Linda) and four beautiful granddaughters, Mia, Camryn, Leigha and Shelby.

Jim provided 38 years of service to Weyerhaeuser Company and he loved working in the pulp mill. As in everything else he did, his drive to excel took him beyond his normal job there, and led to exceptional contributions in major capital improvements in some of the pulping processes, which continue to provide benefit today. He focused on improving equipment, operations and controls for the benefit of the Company and his fellow employees alike. He is well respected for these efforts, contributions, and for his extraordinary drive to continuously make things better for all.

Jim was also an avid marksman and hunter. He received recognition from the Department of the Army in 1989 for being the 47th civilian since 1884 to become a Distinguished Shooter in both pistol and rifle.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Cotten Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. at Greenleaf Memorial Park’s Lakeside Chapel with Pastor Kenny Mercer officiating.

Debbie and family,
I was sad to hear of Jim passing. I worked with him at Weyco and enjoyed his friendship. He is now at Peace and may God be with all of you at this time.

Debbie, Martha told me about Jim's passing. I am so sorry but I know he is in a better place. He was such a good friend (as well as you) to Martha. I'm sure he and Clem are talking about guns now! Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. God will get you through your difficult time.
