Jane Elizabeth Guggino

She is survived by her husband, Raymond Gabriel Strawn; son, Thomas “Gino” Michael Guggino Jr. and wife Tammy; brother, Thomas Daniel Hewlett; sister, Carol Tylee; grandson, Thomas “Trey” M. Guggino III; and several nieces and nephews.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Vera Hewlett, grandparents, Horace and Flossie Hewlett, and Juan Miranda, and brothers, Albert Hewlett and Robert Hewlett.

Jane was born in Smithtown, New York, on Long Island. In 1967, she married Tommy Guggino, and together they welcomed their only child, Thomas Michael Guggino, Jr., also born in Smithtown.

In 1968, when her husband was drafted to serve in Vietnam, Jane moved to Cherry Valley, upstate New York, to live with her sister, Carol Tylee, and her five children. During this time, she worked as a hairdresser and embraced her love of adventure—riding snowmobiles in the winter and riding horses in the summer.

In 1976, Jane relocated to Naples, Florida, where she pursued her passion for the outdoors by starting her own landscaping and nursery business. She raised her son there until the late 1980s. In 1985, she moved to Carteret County, North Carolina, to live with her mother after the passing of her father. Jane was an exceptional cook and baker, known for her homemade pies—never using store-bought crusts—and her apple pie was especially beloved by her family.

It was in Atlantic Beach that Jane met her second husband, Raymond Gabriel Strawn. She worked as a bartender and waitress in the community they both loved. Together, Jane and Gabriel shared a deep love of the beach, camping, and the outdoors. Their annual vacations on Ocracoke Island became treasured family traditions.

Jane will be remembered for her warmth, her devotion to family, and her vibrant spirit. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
