Born on March 2, 1932, Jean lived a long and meaningful life centered on her faith, her family, and her love for others. She loved the Lord and was an active member of West New Bern Presbyterian Church, where her faith and fellowship were an important part of her life.
Jean devoted 23 years of service as a secretary at Trent Park Elementary School. Through her years there, she became a familiar and caring presence to countless students, teachers, and families.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures. Jean loved crossword puzzles and jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed the challenge and satisfaction they brought. She also had a generous heart and lovingly crocheted blankets for others, sharing warmth and comfort through the gifts she made with her hands.
In her later years, Jean especially enjoyed time sitting on her front porch watching the birds and squirrels and waving to neighbors passing by. She enjoyed her visits to Carolina Bagel and Union Point, where she loved meeting people, visiting with friends, and sharing her beautiful smile. Her warmth and friendly spirit brightened the lives of those she encountered.
Jean was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jim Boyd, and her son, Jimmie Boyd, and her parents, John and Ruth Bailey.
Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Barbara Latoni and her husband, René; her son, Michael Boyd and his wife, Caroline; her daughter, Nancy Bryan and her husband, Mike; and her daughter-in-law, Pat Boyd. She was also blessed with 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren, all of whom she dearly loved.
Jean will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her devotion to her family, her generous spirit, and the kindness and warmth she shared so freely. Her beautiful smile, loving heart, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Though she will be greatly missed, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends forever.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at 1:00 pm. The family will receive visitors following the service. Jean will be laid to rest with her husband at Greenleaf at a later time during a private service.
