Obituary of Jean Waters Hawkins

Cotten Funeral Home

Jean Waters Hawkins, 82, of Trent Woods, went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday, January 19, 2022, with her family by her side. Her children will fondly remember her bright smile and cheerful spirit, as well as her joy of cooking and hosting family gatherings. Her grandchildren will cherish the sounds and smells of making snickerdoodles in her kitchen and playing frisbee with her in the backyard. Jean served her neighbors on Circle Drive with a generous hand and loved working in the yard with her husband. Her family is proudest of her abundant love for Jesus and how she served Him daily. Jean is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Rodney: her daughter, Donna: her son, Rod, his wife, Larkin: her grandchildren, Mark Whitfield, Joshua Whitfield (Mackenzie), Parker, Noah, Libby, and Jolie Hawkins: her siblings, George Waters (Inez), Barbara Daniels (Garley), Charles Waters (Mary Alice), Glenda Bell, and Mike Waters (Sheryl): her sisters-in-law, Annette Waters and Patsy Hawkins: as well as numerous aunts, cousins, nieces and nephews which she also loved very much. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and Alma Waters: her brothers, Lynwood and Raymond Waters and her brothers-in-law, Ashley Bell and Burney Hawkins. The family would like to thank all of the health care professionals that provided such wonderful care to her over the last 2 years; especially to Evelyn Saunders, Dr. Rick Gorman, Dr. Bob Whitmore and Stacie Mason. Their professionalism, commitment to excellent care, and gentle kindness deserve special recognition. You each made our journey easier than it would have been otherwise. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Garber United Methodist Church and Religious Community Services (RCS) of New Bern. Services will be held at Greenleaf Memorial Park on Sunday, January 23, at 2:00 p.m. Cotten Funeral Home is honored to serve the family and friends of Jean Waters Hawkins.
