Jeannette Brickle Burkett

October 26, 1933 – August 6, 2026
Obituary of Jeannette Brickle Burkett
IN THE CARE OF

Cotten Funeral Home

Jeannette Brickle Burkett, 92, of New Bern, North Carolina passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026. Jeannette was born in Norfolk, Virginia on October 26, 1933, to the late Reuben and Betty Askew Brickle.

Our mother loved all of us greatly. She taught us that we could do anything and raised us to be independent and self-sufficient.

She was strong woman and created a strong family unit. She stood by us always.

She remained very active and self-sufficient throughout her life (she even updated her driver’s license this past summer) and was determined to live independently.

She loved her flowers and spending time outdoors; loved to thrift shop and was a talented seamstress and crocheter. She continued to do these things even when arthritis slowed her down.

She was extremely thrifty and innovative, finding multiple uses for anything.

She was also one of the wisest and strongest persons we have ever known. She was resilient, determined, and a fighter until the end.

Thankful for her life and continuing in her memory are her four children Pam, Lisa, and Michael Burkett, Nicki Rowe, granddaughter Malorie McSwain (Colin) and her great granddaughter, Alayna McSwain that we wish she could have met in person. She will be missed by all of us immensely.

In addition, she is survived by two sisters, Ruby Nowell and Deanna Martin.

She is predeceased by her husband George, her grandson Caleb Rowe, and two brothers, Millard and Preston Brickle.

We express our sincere gratitude to Dr. Kevin French (CCHC Family Practice) and Dusty Scott (CarolinaEast Heart Center – New Bern) and the staff of Fourth Medical nursing unit at CarolinaEast Medical Center.

In memory of our mother, please go outside and enjoy the flowers – and the moment. Online condolences can be made to the family by visiting  www.cottenfuneralhome.com.  Cotten Funeral Home and Crematory is honored to serve the family and friends of Jeannette Brickle Burkett.
