

Jimmy Carroll Glisson, a beloved and cherished resident of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away on January 17, 2026, at the age of 78. Born on October 15, 1947, Jimmy was known for his generous, devoted, and faithful nature. He was a compassionate, hard-working, honest, and loyal individual, whose wisdom and resilience left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Jimmy proudly served in the US Army and National Guard, where he retired after 27 years of dedicated service. Following his military career, he and his late wife, Brenda Glisson, started their own florist business, JB's Flower Shop, which they successfully ran for 20 years from behind their home. When Jimmy was younger, he earned his 3rd degree black belt in Karate. Later on, he taught Karate in New Bern.
He leaves behind a loving family to honor and cherish his life, legacy, and memories. Jimmy is survived by his daughters, Susan Morris and her fiancé, James (Trey) Massengill, and Deborah Glisson; grandchildren, Aurora Glisson, Jimmy Glisson, Brendan Glisson, and Porter Wallace; sister, Audrey Mizzelle; along with many loving family members and close friends. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Brenda Glisson, and brothers, Lawrence Glisson, Stonewall Glisson, William Glisson, and Paul Glisson.
Jimmy's personal interests and hobbies included riding his motorcycle, playing golf, and woodworking. When Jimmy was home, most days you could find him riding his lawnmower and working in his yard. He spent most of his time with his family, taking care of them and enjoying their company.
His commitment to community service was evident in his roles as a Master and Past Master in the Masonic Berne Lodge 724, a Shriner, and a Past President of the Lions Club Association. He was also a faithful member of West New Bern Presbyterian and traveled to Honduras, where he built a church, demonstrating his dedication to helping others.
Jimmy Carroll Glisson's life was a testament to his generous spirit, and his memory will be cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at 3:00 pm on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at Cotten Funeral Home with Military Honors and Masonic Rites. The family will receive visitors following the service.
