He was predeceased by his wife of 59 years, Gloria Ann "Jidge" Cahill (nee Parker); a son, James; grandson, Christopher and sisters, Francis Boyce and Patricia Sullivan. Mr. Cahill is survived by sons, Michael (Sharen), Walter (Jeanne), Tommy (Susan), and Stephen; grandchildren, Johanna, Jack, Ryan, Jake; great- grandchildren, Helen, Mason, Anthony and Brecklyn; brothers, Tom and Bob (Diana) and sister-in-law, Fran Franklin (Carroll).
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II and was a proud member of I.A.T.S.E. Local 22. He enjoyed working in the Opera House at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and was a lifelong Democrat. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at St. Paul Catholic Church in New Bern. He will be laid to rest with his wife in the church cemetery.
