One of seven children, Jack was born on March 13, 1931 in Washington, DC. In the early 50’s, he served in the US Coast Guard as well as the Washington, DC Police Department. In 1955, he accepted an opportunity with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone (later Verizon) and enjoyed a successful career until his retirement in 1991. He and his wife, Barbara, moved to New Bern in 1993.
Jack adored Barbara and was devoted to their children – Terri, Tim, and Dawn. As parents, they supported the many educational and sports activities throughout their school years and used those programs to develop and instill the values that are still evident today. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his love for golf and the Washington Redskins, and as a beloved husband, father, and grandfather with a kind heart and a moral compass that never wavered. His life was, without doubt, successful.
Barbara predeceased Jack in 2014. He is survived by his children -Terri Hickman (Lance) of Los Angeles, CA, Tim Janezeck (Brandi) of King George, VA, and Dawn Brown (Albert) of Lorton, VA.; 2 sisters – Ann Kyber of Silver Springs, MD and Mary Eckhlom of Temple Hills, MD; and seven grandchildren.
