Joseph Hartley "Joe" Garner, 58, passed away on Friday, February 7th at UNC Lenoir Hospital in Kinston.

Joe will be remembered for his sense of humor and ability to make others laugh, which brought him great joy. Never one to meet a stranger, he could strike up a conversation with anyone and enjoyed doing so. For many years Joe worked with U.P.S. where he made lifelong friends and appreciated the opportunity to meet new people. He loved to work on old cars and spend time outdoors, especially fishing. Above all, he was a great father and enjoyed being "Papa Joe" to his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Judson Garner (Morgan) and Cayla Garner (Charles); two grandchildren, Kole Garner and Chloe Fishel; brother, Paul Garner (Becky); nephews, Stephen and Cody; sister-in-law, Jennifer Garner; niece, Sarah; nephews, John and Zeb; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

A service to remember and celebrate Joe's life will be held at 3 p.m. on Monday, February 17th at Cotten Funeral Home with the family receiving friends following the service.
