Joyce Ann Culverwell passed on to be with the Lord and Savior on Sunday April 22nd at home. She was 75. A Durham native, Joyce retired to Marshallberg in 1993 and recently relocated to New Bern. She was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Howard Culverwell.
Joyce leaves behind three daughters whom she loved dearly, Donna Warren (Dana) of Durham, NC, Brenda Culverwell-Nguyen of Palm Harbour, Florida, Connie Dickens (Del) of New Bern, NC, and Stuart Pigott, companion and friend of Gloucester, NC. Other survivors include her three grandchildren, Nick Warren, Kaitlyn Warren, and Tanner Nguyen; as well as her beloved dog and constant companion, "Kash."
Joyce was high-spirited and full of energy. She loved to laugh, listen to music, dance and lived her life to the fullest. She enjoyed walks on the beach and being on the water, liked to work in her yard, gardening and had a green thumb. Joyce loved to shop and could always find a deal. To her, there was nothing like a good yard sale on a Saturday morning. She had a knack for finding four leaf clovers and has found and kept hundreds of them that will now be passed on as a reminder of the good fortune we've all had in knowing and loving Joyce ... her presence will be missed but her memory lives on.
A service to remember and celebrate Joyce's life will be held at a later date. Until then, may you smile when you have the fortune to find a four leaf clover ... then you'll know Joyce is smiling down on you and sending a message of her love, laughter and zeal for life!
