Joyce was an avid bingo player and a devoted follower of the Food Network. She enjoyed her trips to the Cherokee reservation with her son, Wayne. “Miss Joycie,” as she was affectionately called by her “kids,” helped raise children at Little Hands Day Care for over 35 years. At home, her daughter, granddaughter, great grandchildren, and beloved great-great grandson, Landon Wayne, were her pride and joy. Joyce loved all children regardless of whether or not they were her kin.
Joyce was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Jack Palmer; son, Rodney Wayne Palmer; brothers, Judson Manley Moore and Wesley Thomas Moore; and sisters, Annie Mae Lamb, Vera O’Neal Andrews, Barbara Jeanette Melton, Merlyn Moore Williams, and Shirley Ann Moore.
She is survived by her daughter, Jackie Palmer Broadway; her sisters Edith Virginia Littleton and Ella Louise Mallard; brothers, James Howard Moore, Billy Lee Moore, and Albert Kenneth “Rusty” Moore; granddaughter, Amy Palmer Burris; great-grandchildren, Tayler Lynn Smith and Caleb Garrett Burris; and great-great grandson, Landon Wayne Smith.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Monday, September 11, 2017 at Cotten Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, September 12, 2017 at New Bern National Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit with the family now until Tuesday at Jackie’s home.
