Judy was a graduate of both Craven Community College and Lenoir Community College where she earned her nursing degree. Judy’s career started at UNC Health Kinston where she served in Labor and Delivery. She later moved to West Palm Beach to work at St. Mary’s Hospital. After several years at St. Mary’s Hospital, she remained in Florida to become a Federal and State Inspector for nursing, where she traveled and inspected Hospitals and Nursing homes that covered an area of five states. Judy’s last place of work was the Caswell Development Center in Kinston, bringing her close to home to her family before she retired.
Judy was a loving mother to her daughter Shannon and blessed with three amazing grandchildren. She was very close to her siblings, which all enjoyed each other’s company and the occasional teasing and harassing of each other during the Holidays. “It’s a Riggs thing.”
Judy’s hobbies were fishing, gardening with a love for orchids and watching old western movies in the evenings with her two little dogs Sweet Pea and Rambo.
Judy was proud member of the Core Creek Free Will Baptist Church where she regularly attended Sunday service and a member of the bible study group where she enjoyed spending time and fellowship amongst the ladies of the church.
Leaving behind to honor her legacy and memories are her daughter, Shannon Arnold and her husband, Dean; grandchildren, Amber, Alex, and Alaura; brothers, James Riggs and Donald Riggs (Sherry); sisters, Joyce Riggs and Faye Riggs; and many loving family members and close friends.
Judy is preceded in death by her son, Robert Earl Wilson and her half-sister, Yvonne Ezell.
The family will receive visitors from 12:00-1:00 pm on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at Core Creek Free Will Baptist Church. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm. Following the service, Judy will be laid to rest at Cove City Cemetery.
