

Leslie was preceded in death by her son, Trent Anson Wheat, father, Douglas Byrd, and her sister, Elise Byrd.
She is survived by her husband, Benjamin Anson Wheat, and their son, Ethan Benjamin Wheat, both of New Bern, NC. She is also survived by her parents, Bernie and Janet Vogelgesang of Midlothian, VA, parent-in-laws, Benjamin and Virginia Wheat of Wilmington, NC, brother, Douglas Byrd of Jacksonville, FL, sister-in-law, Renee Wheat of Wrightsville Beach, NC, several nephews and nieces, Jake and Cammie Torrealba of Canyon Lake, CA, Tristan and Benjamin Register of Wrightsville Beach, NC, Lynn Byrd King of William, VA, and Faith Dowell of Cincinnati, OH. She also held a special bond with her best friend of many years, Heather Hopkinson, who was like family.
Leslie was known for her unwavering love and care for her family, her hard work, and her compassionate nature. She found great joy in spending time at the beach, where she could relax and recharge. Her loyal Labrador retrievers, Buck and Tucker, were constant companions, and she cherished the simple pleasures of life with them by her side.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at Cotten Funeral Home Chapel where family and friends will gather to honor and remember Leslie.
