Lewis proudly served his country when he was drafted into the US Army. He was a veteran of Vietnam. For thirty years, Lewis worked for the Southern Railroad and Norfolk Southern Railroad. Often in his spare time, Lewis would volunteer at Bridgeton Elementary and Ben D. Quinn Elementary, and Clyde Elementary schools. His love for helping children continued as Lewis would help in various daycares and churches in Craven and Haywood counties. He was the Assistant Scout Master for Troop #299. During his free time, Lewis enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and watching Carolina Tarheels basketball.
He is survived by his loving wife, Frances Eanes; sons, Daniel "Rusty" Eanes, Ronald D. Eanes, and Matthew G. Eanes (Susan); brothers, Eugene Eanes (Wilma), Arnette Eanes (Ruth), Otis Eanes (Karen), and Lawrence Eanes (Vanessa); sister, Irene Garrett; grandchildren, Chelsea, Daniel, and Victoria; great-grandchild, Abigail Hull; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Eanes; special friends, Cecilia Galloway, Wesley Hull, Karen Payton, and Mike and Rena White; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by sons, George William Eanes and Lewis Ryan Eanes; brother, Clarence Eanes; and sisters, Doris Jean Finney and Barbara Ann Eanes.
The family would like to thank the helpers from Dogwood Lakes Community and the sisters of Preceptor Beta Theta Sorority.
The family will receive visitors at Riverbend Baptist Church from 1:00-2:00 PM on Friday, July 1, 2022. A Memorial Service will follow beginning at 2:00 PM. A graveside service will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Rose Lawn Cemetery in Reidsville, NC.
