Lori was born in Morehead City, North Carolina and later moved to New Bern, North Carolina. She is a class of 1979 graduate from New Bern High School. She dedicated much of her professional life to serving her community, working as an office manager for Dr. Leslie N. Ipock, DDS, from 1983 to 1995, and later spending 20 years with Craven County Schools, where she touched the lives of many students and colleagues.
Lori was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She is survived by her loving and dedicated husband of 22 and a half years, Jimmy Marx, who was always by her side no matter what life threw at them. Known in the family as the “Red Snapper” for her prototypical redhead personality and strong will, her strength, determination, and fighting spirit are shared uniquely through each of her four children: Christopher Michael Cunningham (46), Victoria Brooke Jackson (34), Patrick Landon Scheper (30), and Chandler McBride Scheper (28). In addition, her legacy will also live on through her six grandchildren which she cherished and always saw the best in: Rachel Wilson Cunningham (16), Landon Wyatt Jamieson (16), Christopher Michael Cunningham II (14), Joel Scott Cunningham (11), Addison Claire Jackson (10), and Asteria Graylynn (2 weeks).
Lori’s warmth, kindness, and unwavering love for her family will forever be remembered. Her and Jim’s love for one another is a shining example to everyone that knew them – be patient and loving, love each other through the good and bad, always forgive, always make time for each other, and keep the sacred commitment to each other to be there for each other in sickness AND in health.
For those that are able, please join friends and family for a celebration of Lori’s life which will be held at 11 a.m., on March 22nd, 2025 at Temple Baptist Church (1500 Kingdom Way) in New Bern, North Carolina.
