Lorraine Legendre

Lorraine Legendre, age 94, of New Bern, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2025. She was born on October 30, 1930, the daughter of Raymond and Maryanna Legendre, and sister to Henry and Robert. She lived a long and full life shaped by her faith, discipline, and love of family, friends and animals.

Lorraine spent her career as an elementary school teacher on Long Island, New York, touching the lives of generations of children through her dedication and care. A devout Catholic, she faithfully attended Mass and brought communion to members of her community. She was also a devoted daughter, providing care to her parents throughout their later years.

Lorraine was a woman of strong habits and sharp intellect. Known as a Sudoku expert, she enjoyed challenges that kept her mind active. Her handwriting was elegant, her home spotless-she even dusted the walls-and her sense of order and independence were admired by all who knew her.

Athletic and energetic, Lorraine was an accomplished tennis player and skier. She also had a lifelong love of animals. She fed the deer in her backyard each day, hand-fed chipmunks, rehabilitated injured animals, and cherished her dogs, who brought her great joy and companionship. A talented woodcarver, she specialized in carving birds with great detail and won awards for her craftsmanship.

Lorraine's friends and neighbors were an essential part of her life. Their support and companionship brought her comfort, connection, and joy, and she was so grateful for their presence in her life.

Lorraine was a beloved aunt, great-aunt, and great-great-aunt. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends, and her spirit will live on through them.

A visitation for Lorraine will be held Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Cotten Funeral Home & Crematory. A funeral mass will occur Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Saint Paul Roman Catholic Church, 3005 Country Club Rd, New Bern, NC. The burial will follow the service at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery.
